How to become a Service Advisor-
It’s not often, if ever, that a high school or college graduate sets off with a career objective as an Automotive Service Advisor and yet so many of them have a passion for cars along with the skills needed to do just that. Like most students in such a position, one is likely to get a lot of input from parents and school counselors whose top choices might be popular jobs like Doctors, Lawyers or Hi Tech workers. In fact, the real answer just may be a few layers down.
Perhaps the most important question to answer has more to do with your passions: What will you love doing in life, over the long haul?
Finding passion can be hugely underestimated as to just how meaningful it is in terms of a career choice. If you find yourself chasing a career path that is solely driven by money or public image, there’s nothing wrong with that, so long money and public image are among the top values that you are truly passionate about.
If your passion is cars and if you are considering a college degree in communications for example, a job as an Automotive Service Advisor just might be the perfect post graduation objective for you.
It’s important to recognize that half of the job isn’t about cars at all, but rather about people. It’s about interacting with people that need your help: to get their cars back on the road in time for the trip to grandma’s house, to pick up the kids from soccer practice or just to be able to get to work each day and earn a living.
Chief skills required for a Service Advisor are a strong set of interpersonal and communication skills. If you’re the kind of person who likes to help people and you also happen to love cars, you just may have found your dream job.
In a premium brand environment, such as BMW of San Francisco, Advisors not only get to represent the Ultimate Driving Machine but they also get to deliver the Ultimate Customer Experience. This affords them a unique opportunity to network with their clients and build rapport with them as they share their passion for the brand.
So, even if you’ve already earned that college degree, regardless of what you studied in school, you may be able to put it to work for you in the car business. For more information on available jobs, visit BMWSFjobs.com.
